Klett Group: Annual Balance Sheet 2011 and Perspectives

Overall, FY 2011 was a satisfactory year for the Klett Group. Group revenues totalled EUR 457.1 million in 2011 (2010: EUR 465.3 million); and the before-tax result reached EUR 17.1 million (2010: EUR 20.7 million).

The Group’s educational publications remained on target both domestically and internationally despite a difficult market environment and continuously declining student numbers. The Group was able to retain consistent growth rates among childcare facilities, kindergartens, schools and adult education providers.

“The drop in revenues and the decline in profits in comparison to 2010 can be attributed to positive special effects, the benefits of which were most evident in 2010. This includes, for example, the sale of Giesel Publishing,” explains Philipp Haußmann, spokesman for the Ernst Klett AG Management Board. “Adjusted for these effects, 2011 turned out to be a solid fiscal year marked by positive developments in our business units.”

In the future, the educational company plans to increase its investments into the digital media segment. The Group also intends to further expand its portfolio for schools, kindergartens and childcare facilities. In the years to come, adult education is slated to also play a key role as a growth and investment sector.

“My Management Board colleagues and I are looking forward to the future with optimism; however, we will always keep our eyes trained on the realities of business. We are betting on continued healthy growth paired with a modest earnings situation,” comments Philipp Haußmann.
