Klett Annual Report 2013: in solid shape – The educational company looks optimistically to the future.

– Press Release,

The 2013 financial year was satisfactory for the Klett Group. The educational company is in a solid economic shape. With € 449.9 million, it achieved moderate growth in turnover of 0.7% (2012: € 446.9 million). Profit before taxes remained at the previous year's level of € 13.1 million (2012: € 13.2 million).

Developments in the business units

The educational publishers of the Klett Group have held their position in the market despite the stagnating education market with its declining number of pupils over the last few years and the uncertainties in the education policy. They have found and developed solutions and made investments for the increasing digitalisation of educational media.

The educational company's international business is performing well outside of German-speaking regions just as it is in German-speaking countries.

Demand for continued education through Klett's distance learning schools remains constant. The Klett Group's specialist distance learning schools are holding their own against the competition and recorded a further year of dynamic growth. There is brisk demand especially for the Group's on-site portfolio – schools, crèches and day-care centres. The interest in high-quality childcare places has continued since 1 August 2013, the deadline for a legal right to a childcare place. At the same time, there is continued growth in the private kindergarten, school and university market.

"Whether it's in the digitalisation of media or the strengthening of our expertise and capacities in the area of on-site learning, our primary goal is always to create a high-quality portfolio in all of our business divisions," confirms Philipp Haußmann, spokesperson of the Management Board, Ernst Klett AG.

Due to the Group's good liquidity position, Ernst Klett AG has been able to repay the fixed interest bond of nearly € 50 million earlier than expected to its investors and thereby improve the capital structure of the Klett Group.

The Klett Group is cautiously positive about the future and will continue to invest in new products and facilities to continue the success of previous years.
