How we are organized
Four Holding Companies. One Klett Group.
Operationally, the Klett Group comprises four umbrella companies,
into which the individual companies are organised.
These umbrella companies are as follows:
Klett Erwachsenen- und Weiterbildung (EuW), Klett Kita und Schule (K&S), Klett Schulmedien (KSM), and Klett Lernen und Information (KLI).
All of the Klett Group’s distance-learning schools, together with its campus-based and distance-learning universities in Germany, are grouped under the umbrella of Klett Erwachsenen- und Weiterbildungsgesellschaft. The Deutsche Weiterbildungsgesellschaft (DWG) is responsible for the distance-learning schools and distance-learning universities, while the Klett Campus (KCG) is responsible for the campus-based CBS University of Applied Sciences.
Klett’s distance-learning schools and universities welcome adults of all ages who wish to pursue their educational goals alongside their careers. Its campus-based universities, meanwhile, predominantly serve young adults seeking academic qualifications immediately after secondary school or initial vocational training.
Klett EuW includes APOLLON Hochschule der Gesundheitswirtschaft, CBS University of Applied Sciences, ILS, Euro-FH, SGD and Wilhelm Büchner Hochschule (Germany).
Klett Kita & Schule is a global provider of early years, primary, secondary and vocational education. Around 240 educational institutions are operated under the umbrella of K&S. Each education provider implements its own pedagogical and organisational approach. Klett Kita & Schule supports its organisations in continuously developing the quality of their educational provision and provides thematic direction on cross-cutting topics such as education for sustainable development (ESD) and artificial intelligence (AI).
In the field of early childhood education, K&S companies include the kitea and Seepferdchen day-care centres in Germany and kiana day-care centres in Switzerland. Its general education providers include the BEST-Sabel and Galileo Bildungshaus schools in Germany, SIS Swiss International Schools in Switzerland, Germany, Brazil, Italy and Spain, and the Montessori 21 schools in France.
The Kalaidos Education Group also operates in Switzerland under the umbrella of K&S. It brings together high-profile education companies and a leading educational publisher. As an integrated educational alliance, Kalaidos offers flexible learning pathways encompassing general education, vocational education and training, workplace learning, higher vocational education and training, and universities of applied sciences – complemented by practice-oriented, pedagogically sound educational media.
Through Medwing, Careloop and Klett EDU (Germany), K&S companies prepare nursing professionals from around the world for professional careers in Germany.
Klett Schulmedien comprises ten publishing houses specialising in the development and distribution of educational resources for schools. The publishers operate independently within their respective markets. The portfolio covers a broad range of curricula with educational resources for primary, secondary and vocational schools, including textbooks and workbooks, accompanying materials, and digital teaching and learning environments.
KSM includes Ernst Klett Verlag (Germany), ThiemeMeulenhoff, Uitgeverij Deviant and Zwijsen (Netherlands), Zwijsen (Belgium), Studeo (Finland), Österreichische Bundesverlag, and Klett und Balmer (Switzerland). It also has minority shareholdings in Gynzy and Faqta (Netherlands) and other companies.
Within the Klett Group, Klett Lernen und Information brings together educational media publishers and educational technology providers across Europe, Africa and North America. KLI comprises four divisions: Languages Worldwide, Education DACH, Education East and Culture.
The Languages Worldwide division incorporates companies in eight countries, most of which focus on institutional language learning for schools and adult education providers. These companies include Editorial Difusión (Spain), Ernst Klett Sprachen and PONS Langenscheidt (Germany), Klett World Languages and Klett Schoolwide Publishing (USA), Klett World Languages Canada (Canada), Maison des Langues (France), and Talenland (Netherlands). It also has minority shareholdings in Storymoja (Kenya, Uganda), PONS Intelligence (Germany) and Laniqo (Poland).
The Education DACH division comprises companies providing curriculum-independent educational resources, specialist information, school administration software as well as day-care and school supplies in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. These include AAP Lehrerwelt, Friedrich Verlag, Klett Kita, Klett MEX, Lieblingsshop Gruppe, meinUnterricht, Meister Cody and RAABE (Germany), Jungösterreich Zeitschriftenverlag (Austria), and elk Verlag (Switzerland). It also has minority shareholdings in Teachino (Austria) and other companies.
Education East is the third division of Klett Lernen und Information. It includes educational media publishers and educational technology providers operating across Eastern Europe and the Baltic States. These include, among others, AdminSoft, Admin SoftPlus, Raabe Bulgaria and Klett Bulgaria (Bulgaria), Nakladatelství Dr. Josef Raabe and Fraus Klett (Czech Republic), Klett Hellas (Greece), ART Klett (Romania), Rokus Klett and Modrijan (Slovenia), Dr. Josef Raabe Slovakia and Expol Pedagogika (Slovakia), Izdavačka kuća Freska, Klett Serbia and Novi Logos (Serbia), Klett Latvia and Skolas Vards (Latvia), Baltos Lankos Klett (Lithuania), Klett Polska (Poland), Profil Klett (Croatia), Raabe Klett Oktatási Tanácsadó és Kiadó Kft. (Hungary).
The Culture division comprises the renowned Klett-Cotta publishing house and Junfermann.
